A new team combining some of the best emergency response talent in Southern California is training to deal with acts of terrorism and other regional disasters.
Called the Orange County Join Hazardous Assessment Team, the team includes firefighters, police officers, weapons of mass destruction experts, hazardous materials teams and two bomb diffusion squads. Each team member is on call at all times.
The Anaheim Police Department prides itself on its outstanding reputation for critical response – and intends to offer its expertise and input on important regional efforts such as JHAT, officials said.
Other police agencies involved in the effort: Orange County Sheriff’s Department, Huntington Beach Police Department, Santa Ana Police Department and Irvine Police Department. Fire agencies are: Orange County Fire Authority, Santa Ana Fire Department, Anaheim Fire Department and Huntington Beach Fire Department.The Fire Department News Network recently profiled the effort.
